19 weeks count-down

Actually, 19 weeks minus 2 days.

I just looked through my photos on the JBF Forum, a trip back in time and space. Though true that looking back won't get you to the place in the future you want to get to, a peek can show you where you do NOT want to go back to, and what you SHOULD focus on.

19 weeks till the wedding, 18 till my parents arrive

I've spent the morning strategizing and planning, workout program, nutrition plan (including a passage on…

Big bang for small bucks

I got an e-mail last week. Well, I'm on Jon's mailing list (of course) so I received the mail everyone else on the list got. With a link to Hanan's natural beauty book (>>> A quick 50 cent "facelift" right in your kitchen (and more) <-- more details here) The low-price offer is most likely over by the time anyone reads my posting, but even at full price this is…

The Healthy Food Pyramid

This would be a much better food pyramid too go by than the traditionally government supported version - but money is what is at the base of the official one, not health.

Luckily, we don't have to follow the leaders, only our own common sense…

pullups, chin ups

Pull ups are one of the best exercises and I used to do a lot of chin ups when I was young.  My pr is 19 when I was maybe 18.  One of my yearly goals is to get stronger and one measurement I have is the number of pull ups I can do.  I was able to do 11 not so clean chin ups last fall.. I want to be able to do more.. cleanly.

My strategy now is to do a set of chin ups at least once a day and increase the number weekly or more often if I feel like I'm getting stronger quicker.  Now I…

Just Reviewd EODD With My Doc!

I had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago and today I went in for a consult.  All was good but since I am in a high risk category for colon cancer because of genetics my Doc wanted to discuss diet.

I showed him the Every Other Day Diet since that is what I am on and he was very positively impressed.  So it turns out the SNAPP is also good for your colon.  All I know is that it makes me feel great!

Not exactly fitness related, although you need to be in shape for this, lol

I got a letter from dad today - he'd located a fun article in his archives he said, going on to say I might want to translate it (from Norwegian) ... I started reading, and was laughing so hard I was crying :)

See for yourselves (a tad long, but hilarious)

Calories in - Calories out?!?!

Maybe you guys can help me with at question that has been lurking in the back of my mind: Does 1 (one) calorie eaten = 1 calorie spent ? Theoretically they should, because the scientific definition is the same.

The taking yesterday as an example, my calculations are as follows:

Calorie intake: 2572 kcal

Calories spent (workout): 1560 kcal

----------------------------

Total intake 1013 kcal

Daily target 2290 kcal

Total intake 1013…

Quarterly check-in

It's been a while since I was last here.

What can I say. Work and Christmas kinda got in the way.

I was working flat out from September through to December. Worked so hard I list weight without even trying.

But then I put it back on over Christmas. Plus I've had some medical issues to deal with.

So at the beginning of this month I was right around the same weight I've been around for the last 9 months.

Oh well. It could be so…

Workout nutrition

Above subject is one that pops up in many tranining discussions. This link provides a very detailed, yet not too scientific explanation, as to what is needed pre- and post-workout. I personally find it very comprehensive and at the same time possible to understand for the average trainee (whomever that might be :-) ):

Things Are Really Going Great This Time

I am not sure why I have to always figure things out the second time around, but I guess that is just one of my failings.  I bought the Every Other Day Diet over a year ago and floundered around with it.

I just didn't take it seriously and kept telling myself the tomorrow I would start in earnest--ha!

Finally I got tired of carrying around 50 extra pounds and I went on the hCG diet.  It was pretty brutal, but I lost a lot of weight because I didn't cheat at…

Drop that set!

No, I didn't mean drop it, like not doing it, but like the old and tried trick of using drop sets.

Up till now I have only been experimenting with dropsets haphazardly and infrequently. But this month, VDM's MYM program includes dropsets regularly on all workout days and most exercises. And I have to say, that used systematically and consequently, they add a whole new meaning to the "exhausting a muscle" concept.

It's quite amazing how, shortly after having…

Accountability

I believe that every now and then we all need to be held accountable for reaching our goals. The upcoming season I believe could very well be one of those times, when an extra effort is needed to avoid a full month of overeating and sabotaging our goals.

My goal is to enter 2012 leaner and in better shape than I was in 2011. To that end I have joined a Holiday Challenge hosted by Tom Venuto. The support community there is quite extensive and very international too. But the…

I'm Back!

Well, I'm back and ya' know what? I am committed this time and losing weight.

When I first git the Every Other Day Diet I thought I was serious but I wasn't. I just floundered around with it a bit.

Then I went on the hCG diet protocol, brutal but fast, I lost about 42 lbs in as many days.

When I got off from that the weight started coming back. That is when I pulled out EODD again. Thank Goodness!

Compared to hCG, this is a breeze and boy am I enjoying it. I guess…

Nwe to EODD and have come to stand still

Hi I am new to EODD since 10/27/11 I have lost 15 pds so far but have come to a standstill To be honest I don't no if all the weight I have lost was due to EODD for, For 3 months now I have been working on cleaning up my diet- all organic, lots of water, super foods although i stir away from raw as i am having some teeth problems. I do Bikrams yoga every other day which burns about 1000 calories.  I feel like I have a hard time getting in the rhythm of the meals >4 questions  1. Can I…

Exercise cycling and frequency

During my excursion into the land of the Maximize Your Muscle (MYM for short) program the subject of periodization and training frequency has materialized.

Simply put, how often should you train the same muscles and bodyparts?

As with any subject in the fitness world, views differ from one end of the scale to the other. However a certain paradigm has ruled as a generally accepted truth: A bodypart and or muscle(s) should only be worked over once a week. 95% of…
