Fit over 40 is a great book in many different ways. One of the most important aspects is the role modeling. I was at the gym a couple of days ago and there was on elderly woman doing her thing.. lifting heavy weights and working hard. She was in exceptional shape and I was thinking that what am I going to look like and would I be working out like she was at that age or was I going to be like my parents who can barely get out of the house at the same age? I thought what would it take to be like that and what is more important what kind of life will I have in either case. Most people take the middle road at best.. they don't really abuse their body but don't really take care of themselves either. I think the "watered down" approach to life is really more dangerous thing.. Mediocrity is number on enemy.. (number 2 is perfectionism because it discourages people). I have an image of the woman in my head and also an image what I will look like and feel like.. Flashing those things in my mind help me choose the right choice in my daily life. The more I do that the more automatic it becomes. Fit over 40 shows so many role models and shows that there are many ways to achieve the excellence.. What is more remarkable that EVERY one can achieve that..

So so true! I had a great role model on hand when I started at the gym too, a 60-year old guy who'd done some kind of sports all his life and bodybuilding for the past 30 years. When I put my hand on his back it was like touching a brick wall! He pushed me with the bench presses (we actually became training partners and I'd spot him on his heavy presses no problem at all) and squats, showed me the ropes in many areas. I still correspond with him as best he can - he's almost blind after a work-related accident, but keeps on training!

Forget age and handicaps - most can be worked around somehow. Don't let your mind and others' opinions set you back or stop you in your tracks.
