Anyone have any recommendations for getting back "up to speed" after a cold or flu. I attemped to run a 5k last weekend (my first) but was recovering from something. Had to walk a couple of times to catch my breath disappopinting after following a couch to 5k program for 9 months. I am 45 so hopefully this is the best fit for this topic.

Thanks All

Lots of rest, extra vitamin C and D, light meals but if you're already in keeping with EODD your meals won't be heavy anyway. Add some freshly made juices (vegetable and/or fruit) for added easy nutrition as well; soup is an easily digested food - just make sure it's made from scratch, no cans or dry stuff!

Progress slowly with the return to training, listen to your body. If you need to walk a little, then walk, there's no shame in that. If you push too hard, you run the risk of falling ill again and have an even longer set-back.
I swear by a packet of Emergen-C after every run, even when I am not sick at all. It helps by body recouperate from depleting my antioxidants.

After completing RFLB, I still kept using the L-cartinine and L-glutamine as my muscles seemed to recover a lot faster when using these supplements. Proof about the supps and protein loading was running my fastest 1/2 Marathon ever in June, wiping out my prior PR by 7 minutes!

I am an AVID runner now - after hating it all my life, I got into it when I started teaching my kids to ride 2 wheelers. We would go to the bike path they would ride and I would run alongside them as they were going too slow for me to ride and needed help getting started, etc.. Long story short is that I got better and better at running and found I love the outdoor time (even when it is raining here in Seattle) EODD and RFLB have helped me get in the best shape of my life and I am definitely seeing gains in my running performance.

Let me know if you have any questions, I am not a trainer or coach but I have done a lot of reading / experimenting with running programs and nutrition.
Thanks, I guess basically I've just got to wait it out and ease back up to speed. I've been resting (as well as I can with little one being sick too) and keeping my nutrition in line so...

Again thanks.

"It is, really. What other species even questions what to eat or how much? Where are our instincts? Killed by civilization, or just "in a coma"?"

"Yes, that's nice. You can do your workout whenever and however you like. Just be careful if you workout alone, with no-one to assist you if things get too heavy, you could get hurt. But I guess you know yourself and you limits well by now.…"
