I ordered the program back in July along with the supplements. I was training so heavily on the bike and the Summer was so hot that I could not manage this program with my training. I was cycling many times a week gearing up for two big Century events in October. In October I completed the Seismic Challenge, a one day 113 mile bike event from Fort Bragg in Northern California down highway 1 to Jenner and then to Guerneville. The event had so many hills and the climbing was intense at times. For the entire event, there was over 7500 feet of climbing. Two weeks later I completed a 100 mile event in the heat in Davis at the Foxy Fall Century event put on by the Davis, CA bike club. After both of these events it was clear to me and my bike coach that I needed to do some remediation of my training plan. I am now one month into a 4 month base building phase to gear up for more serious endurance training that will start in mid January and proceed through May culminating in the AIDS LIFECYCLE 11 Event. Yes, I probably will do the seven day event again cycling from San Francisco to LA (560 miles).
My cycling goals for this second year are 1) improve my climbing skills 2) improve my speed into a category 4 cyclist (15-18 mph average) and 3) maintain or improve my endurance.
To achieve these goals I am working with a cycling coach and a personal trainer. I have to increase my strength which I am doing with consistent skills training on the bike and with core and weight work in the gym. I MUST LOSE THIS EXTRA FAT if I want to improve my Power to Weight ratio (necessary to improve climbing). My body fat was just tested again by scanner at my doctor's office. The results are not in. I weigh about 167. My plan is to start the RFL program this Sunday November 20th. I will be at my vacation home in the desert and off work until the 28th. I have access to a Gold's gym there, plenty of walking and will have my road bike and a hybrid bike for activity. Being off work for that first week will be an asset I think to my progress. I am going to try to write every day during the holidays. If I succeed with my plans, I will complete the 21 day program on Saturday December 10th well in advance of Christmas Holidays.
Please follow with me and comment as I go. I am going to need the encouragement I think!

Permalink Reply by JBF Mentor Tom Mortensen on November 18, 2011 at 2:56pm Great to hear from someone training for a specific goal. Yes, I know the weigh to power ratio is important to ýou hillclimbers, I'v got a few friends heavy into cycling.
Having used the RFLB, I can vouch for the fact that it is efficient in shedding fat. I have never been so lean as after RLFB, hovering just around 10% bodyfat. My starting point was around 14%, so quite efficient. I followed Jon's tailormade exericise program during RLFB, spiced up with a few extra cardio sessions, mostly interval sprinting.
But anyways good luck with your RLFB, looking forward to hearing how it goes!

Yes, keep us posted. I did RFLB just before the intense training portion of a half marathon and ran my PR (which still stands despite successive races) The fat shedding will be very beneficial but also the ability of RFLB to decrease your dependence on empty carb calories is terrific. You will definitely notice that you become more able to use protein and stored fat for enregy instead of quick carbs when endurance training. I kept up with the L-cartinine and L-glutamine even post RFLB to maintain my body's abitily to use protein & fats for fuel and speed in muscle recovery.
